Swedish Radio Choir / Tõnu Kaljuste
Estonian composer Arvo Pärt has a special role in the music world. Unfazed by trends and fashion, he has created his own unique, spiritual tonal language, which combines medieval Gregorian chant and iridescent soundscapes to achieve a musical meditation. The Hamburg resident Alfred Schnittke adopted a similar approach in his »Choral Concerto«, which seasons resonant Old Russian church singing with modern elements. The perfect repertoire for the Swedish Radio Choir, which was recently described by Die Zeit newspaper as »one of the best in the world«. In this choir, the balance of voices was said to be »just as important as the coloration of vowels, as declamation, pronunciation and timing«.
