György Ligeti & Béla Bartók

The main source of György Ligeti's world fame were large-scale orchestral compositions like »Atmosphères«. But the Hungarian composer who later settled in Hamburg was also a master of smaller works, as can be heard in several chamber concerts at the music festival. There are echoes of Ligeti's native country to be found in work titles like »Passacaglia ungherese« and »Hungarian Rock«. The harpsichord pieces he wrote in the late 1970s reflect the rock and pop music of the time that Ligeti discussed with his students at Hamburg’s Hochschule für Musik und Theater. The Horn Trio in turn pays homage to Brahms, presented by star clarinettist Sharon Kam and her ensemble.
