»A beacon on the Hamburg music scene« (Hamburger Abendblatt); »an impressive array of stars« (NDR Kultur); »smart seduction« (FAZ); »a wealth of tonal variety« (Die Welt) – press and public alike heaped lavish praise on the Hamburg International Music Festival, which was launched in May 2014. The highly successful inaugural festival fully achieved its goal of capturing new audiences beyond regular concertgoers at the Laeiszhalle. For the upcoming second edition, Hamburg’s leading music institutions, orchestras and concert promoters have again compiled an outstanding four-week programme of wide-ranging events and musical highlights. Both Thomas Hengelbrock, Principal Conductor of the NDR Symphony Orchestra, and Hamburg’s new General Music Director Kent Nagano feature prominently in the festival. The overriding theme of the second festival edition is »Freedom«. Other focal points include the performance of works by composers who were persecuted or ostracized. The final weekend of the festival is devoted to the music of Johannes Brahms. The Hamburg International Music Festival is made possible by the initiative of the Klaus-Michael Kühne Stiftung and supported by a dedicated group of patrons and sponsors who are committed to developing Hamburg as a city of music.
The programme will be published in November 2015.
